The Salida School District covers the southern half of Chaffee County and Western Fremont County, encompassing approximately 500 square miles. The district is served by Salida high school, Salida middle school, and Longfellow elementary school. All the schools are located within the City of Salida. The Salida School district is fully accredited with the State of Colorado and grades 9-12 are accredited by the North Central Accrediting Association. A comprehensive academic and activity program is offered with emphasis toward the basics in grades K-8, and "cutting edge"' programs in Salida high school using state-of-the-art technology. Quality programs exist in the areas of special needs children, Chapter I, General Education, Vocational Education and Work-Study.
The Salida school district has 96 accredited teachers and 166 employees. The average age of the certified staff is 42 years, with a closely equal number of men to women. The total school district staff includes a complement of over 50 support personnel including secretaries, aides, cooks, custodians and bus drivers. The Salida school district employs six administrators, five in the schools and one at the District level.
Students from the Salida School District consistently score above the State and the National average on the standardized tests including the ACT and
SAT. Over 50% of the high school graduates have earned Master's
Degrees or more. Fifty to sixty percent of Salida high school graduates
go on to college or technical schools. The Salida school district has received
national recognition from the School Match Corporation as one
of seven percent of school districts nationwide to offer the type
and quality of education parents want for their children.
