The Buena Vista School District includes northern Chaffee County. The District is served by Buena Vista High School, McGinnis Middle School and Avery-Parsons Elementary School, with a total enrollment of approximately 960 students and 75 certified staff.

The Administration Office is open year round (closed Fridays from June through August). It is located on E. Main St., directly behind Buena Vista Heritage Museum. If you have any questions concerning school business, please call and we'll do our best to find the answer.

The athletic office is open two weeks before school starts in the fall and one week after school is out in the spring. Kindergarten through 12th grade enrollment is 108. The average class size is 10 to 12, and the average classroom size is 18.

Darren Patterson Christian Academy equips preschool and K-12 students for excellence in Christian life and service by providing a nurturing, distinctly Christian school environment that emphasizes knowing Christ, imitating His character, integrating the Bible in all of life and learning, mastering academic knowledge and skills and affirming the uniqueness of each child.


Special Programs

Head Start Preschool
Head Start is a federal program for preschool children from low-income families. Children who attend Head Start participate in a variety of educational activities. They also receive free medical and dental care, have healthy meals and snacks and enjoy playing indoors and outdoors in a safe setting.

Head Start helps children succeed. Services are offered to meet the special needs of children with disabilities. Most children in Head Start are between the ages of three and four. Cut off for ages is September 1. Applications with proof of child's age and family income must be received and verified no later than mid-August. Avery-Parsons Preschool

Classes Monday through Thursday mornings and afternoons for children 2 1/2 to 5 years of age. This is a preschool, not a daycare facility. Tuition is based on income.

The Chaffee County Early Childhood Council (CCECC)
grew out of a community initiative launched by many of these programs. The purpose of the council is to work collaboratively to develop a sustainable comprehensive early childhood system that builds on our community assets, while addressing unmet community needs.
